Product detailed description

Flugo Polyurethane Hive for 11 Frames, frame size 39x15 cm

This hive is equipped with a ventilated hive cover and a removable plastic tray for a Varroa monitoring bottom. The 3.5 cm thick polyurethane walls provide exceptional thermal insulation, comparable to 14 cm of wood.

Components and Features

  • Includes four ventilation openings with trapezoidal closures.
  • The internal height of 6.7 cm allows for winter feeding.
  • Dimensions: 10.1 x 47.3 x 47.3 cm.
  • Weight: 1.3 kg.

Hive Box

  • Monolithic polyurethane construction ensures durability.
  • Each box includes a groove for dividers, allowing flexible frame arrangements.
  • Internal dimensions: 405 x 405 mm.
  • Dimensions and weight (three boxes): 49 x 47.3 x 47.3 cm, 5 kg.

Key Advantages of Flugo Hives

  • Lightweight and Portable: Hive box weighs only 1.8 kg, making transport easy.
  • Faster Spring Development: Insulation promotes rapid spring colony growth.
  • Reduced Winter Consumption: Saves up to 50% on winter food supplies.
  • Exceptional Insulation: 3 cm polyurethane walls equal to 14 cm of wood.
  • Seamless Construction: Improves stability.
  • Easy Maintenance: Smooth surfaces simplify cleaning and reduce disease risk.
  • Optimal Year-Round Conditions: Enhances honey production and reduces bee mortality.
  • Pest Resistance: Protects against rodents and insects.
  • Durable Rebates: Allow easy movement and rearrangement of components.
  • Weather Resistance: Withstands rain, snow, wind, and hail.
  • Transport-Friendly: Lightweight design for easy relocation.
  • Climate Adaptability: Performs well in all weather conditions.

Ventilation Recommendations

  • Close the bottom ventilation with the plastic tray from February 1 to March 30 to support late winter colony growth.
  • Gradually remove the tray in April, depending on weather conditions.
  • Keep the bottom ventilation fully open during the rest of the year, even in severe frost.
  • During hot summer days, above 30°C, use ventilated closures on the hive cover and place a vapor-permeable sheet or propolis mesh for better air circulation.

Painting Instructions

Polyurethane is not UV-resistant. Apply a protective coating after 1–2 years of sun exposure. Lightly sand the surface before painting for better adhesion. A properly applied coating lasts up to 10 years.

Potential Disadvantages

Unpainted hives may peel over time and have a shorter lifespan. Minor imperfections or bubbles do not affect the hive's functionality and are not considered defects.
